Expertise
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback, also called neurotherapy or neurobiofeedback, is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity—most commonly electroencephalography —in an attempt to teach self-regulation of brain function. Practical uses include, but are not limited to, the therapy of children with ADHD/Autism and those suffering from anxiety and depression as well as brain brightening for seniors, exam preparation for students and enhanced focus for sports enthusiasts and musicians.
Bereavement Support
Bereavement support can help identify the different stages of grief and validate the feelings that arise within the cycle. Everyone will have their own way of dealing with grief but within the cycle we see five stages including, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. These are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost. They are tools to help us frame and identify what we may be feeling.
Clinical Hypnosis
Clinical hypnosis is an altered state of awareness, perception or consciousness that is used, by licensed and trained doctors or masters prepared individuals, for treating a psychological or physical problem. It is a highly relaxed state. Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention that can be used effectively in therapy to work with phobias, anxiety, sexual problems, alcoholism, smoking control, speech disorders, weight control, chronic pain, age regression therapy, self-esteem/ego strengthening, memory/concentration improvement, and forensic work.
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
Critical incident stress management is an adaptive, short-term psychological helping-process that focuses solely on an immediate and identifiable problem. It can include pre-incident preparedness to acute crisis management to post-crisis follow-up. Our therapists are available in-office or on-site depending on the needs requirement.
Tools
Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis has been demonstrated to have a wide range of benefits, from simply improving symptoms or difficulties, to completely eliminating them. Most people describe hypnosis as a pleasant experience, during which they feel focused and absorbed in the hypnotic experience. Depending on how you and your therapist agree to structure your hypnosis sessions, they may help you to feel more alert, more relaxed, more comfortable, or more peaceful.
Bereavement Support
Highlander Counselling offers free access to Griefwords, a library of thoughtful articles provide guidance and direction to anyone touched by grief. We also provide free enamel lapel ribbon pins for order. We currently offer both black and rainbow ribbon pins. When worn, the ribbon pins provide a visual cue to the world that you are grieving the loss of a loved one or pet.
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is presently the only known therapy that targets the original site of the brain injury and reaches into where the disability begins. This therapy incorporates a comprehensive diagnostic protocol that can help understand and address the root cause(s) of the dysfunction.
Brain Regulation
Neurofeedback and Hyperbaric Oxygen target and reach both the structure and function of the injured brain, sourcing the cause of the disability and not just the results or symptoms. Both treatments are a powerful addition to any treatment plan without causing harmful side effects. To find out more about Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments and Neurofeedback, a complimentary treatment, please download both of the following brochures.
